I had the opportunity to speak at ID CONNECT: Chapter 2 – Pulmonology, held at AIG Hospital, Hyderabad from April 4th to 6th, 2025. This conference, which followed the success of ID Connect Chapter 1: Gastroenterology, focused on the dynamic and challenging field of pulmonary infections. It brought together an incredible faculty from across the country and created a robust platform for knowledge exchange among infectious disease specialists, pulmonologists, intensivists, and internists.
I was invited to deliver a talk on a particularly complex topic—Treatment of Pneumonia due to XDR (Extensively Drug-Resistant) Superbugs. I discussed strategies for managing infections caused by Carbapenem-resistant organisms, including E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter, especially when antibiotic options are extremely limited.
These infections pose a significant challenge due to their high morbidity, mortality, and the immense emotional and economic toll they can take. I emphasized the importance of staying updated with emerging antibiotics and their optimal use—an absolute necessity for clinicians today.
The conference provided deep dives into lung infections across diverse patient populations, including those who are immunocompetent, immunocompromised, transplant recipients, and people living with HIV. Through case-based learning, evidence-based updates, and collaborative discussions, we explored how to improve clinical decision-making and uphold principles of antimicrobial stewardship.
It was a privilege to be part of such a forward-thinking and well-curated academic event, and I look forward to continuing the conversations it sparked.
